Business Owners – do you want to dominate your market or simply survive?
Many Business Owners still ask the question of why they need SEO to not only thrive, but simply survive in today’s business climate. It’s easy to understand why…
During the recession, everyone suffered. Clients were less willing to try new things and adopt new marketing methods which meant that they didn’t want to invest in SEO or other mediums of online advertising. Even after 2010, business owners are still hesitant about spending money on SEO because it doesn’t seem like it works as well as traditional forms off advertising.
This continued behavior by business owners caused many people who offer Digital Marketing services to rush into an “SEO for dummies” type of offering by writing blogs posts that end with a call-to-action stating something along the lines of “Contact us today so we can start working on your website!” or “Don’t be another victim! Call us now to get started!”
This type of offering is degrading for SEO professionals and does not provide any value whatsoever. If you do an online search for such a product or service, you will see hundreds of results that tell people how simple it is to rank well in the search engines and generate tons of traffic. Most of these products require little to no experience because they claim that all someone needs is a website and then they can start taking over Google (which we know isn’t true).
These types of offers make our job as SEO’s much harder because:
When business owners find out about these types of services, they lose trust in SEO Professionals. When we try to offer education on why SEO is a good idea, they brush us off because “they got it from Google it works.” Even today we have clients constantly tell us that we are the only ones who seem to understand what we do. When clients find out about these types of services, they get upset and often times leave.
It has been estimated by Moz that $10 is generated for every dollar spent on Internet Marketing. This means that if you invest $10,000 in SEO, it would be reasonable to think that at least $100,000 can be made from your website. It sounds great except the majority of spenders are only willing to invest between 1-5% of their yearly marketing budget which equals about $1,000-$5,000 per year according to Hubspot.
Even if a company were ready and willing to invest more than average in digital marketing efforts, they still need time because it takes 6 months or longer before businesses start noticing results with SEO. For this reason Business Owners avoid spending money on SEO because they have no idea when they will start seeing a profit.
There is a large disconnect between the SEO Marketing Industry and Business Owners because of this misunderstanding on how SEO works . Business owners still think that SEO is simply a website submission process whereas genuinely effective SEOs know that building authority in search engines through content marketing takes time, effort, and money to accomplish successfully. This means that if you want your site to rank well for specific keywords, it will take time even though there are ways to speed up this process (which we will not be discussing today).
Now let’s discuss some reasons why you need Search Engine Optimization:
1) It’s going to cost less than other types of digital advertising methods such as social media ads or PPC advertising methods. Since business owners are still hesitant about spending money on SEO, they will often times find better deals if they hire a specialist who specializes in SEO.
2) It’s more flexible than other types of advertising methods because you can buy traffic at any time during the day rather than just when your target audience is online.
3) The top 3 positions are given most of the exposure. Most internet users click on links that appear in the top 3 positions regardless of how relevant they are to what they were searching for.
4) SEO is one of the best methods to earn highly targeted traffic which is more likely to convert into sales.
5) It’s a low cost and effective way to advertise because you can always expand your exposure through other channels.
All of these things are good reasons why you should use SEO as part of your digital marketing efforts.
How to tell if an SEO agency can generate good results for your business
How can you tell if an SEO agency is good, or just “selling smoke”?
The answer to this question is not always an easy one. But there are some signs you can watch out for. Not every SEO company has qualified experts working for them, so it’s very important to do your research and find a reputable business that can bring a return on investment by creating a successful campaign.
When choosing an SEO partner for your online business, there are some key questions you should ask yourself: Do they have a history of getting “wins” for their clients? Do they have the technical skills required to help build a strong foundation of success? What about their link building expertise? Will they be able to provide regular reports on the progress made on my website? Do they seem to provide good value-for-money?
An SEO company should have a team of expert professionals with qualifications in many different subjects. These experts should be able to help you improve your overall online presence by promoting quality content and increasing the amount of relevant links pointing to your website. Of course, these experts will also need to know how to build a website that ranks highly on well-known search engines – something that’s not always easy – but it is possible with hard work and a lot of knowledge!
How can I tell if an SEO agency is good or bad?
It might be difficult to tell whether or not an SEO company is ethical from simply looking at them from the outside. Some companies may look as though they offer high-quality services, but in fact, they don’t. These companies will fail to provide any real value for their customers in the long-term and there’s no point in wasting money on them.
So how can you tell whether or not an SEO agency is good? Well, it might be difficult to determine this from an initial meeting – after all, they’ll probably try to convince you of their quality by outlining a lot of “marketing speak” – but there are some things that their past clients should be able to comment on. How did the company help them increase revenue ? Were they offered regular reports during the process ? Did they feel as though their business was valued? And were they happy with the end results?
When asking these questions of previous clients, you should be able to tell whether or not the company is offering a professional service. If they’re unable to answer your questions, then there’s no point in even considering their services further.
What are some red flags when choosing an SEO partner?
Avoiding choosing an SEO agency that doesn’t seem competent at all is another great way of avoiding bad companies! But marketing speak isn’t always easy to spot and it can be difficult to choose between “hype” and real results … The truth is, marketing speak can sometimes sound really impressive but when you read between the lines, it might not actually mean much. It’s very important to work with someone who has experience in building successful campaigns for online businesses.
The problem with companies that use jargon and marketing speak is that it can often be very confusing. If you’re unsure about what they’re offering, why not ask them to provide examples of their work? What have they done for other companies in the past? How did this benefit those businesses?
The good news is that there are some clear red flags that should allow you to easily identify bad SEO agencies. Anyone claiming to offer “guaranteed rankings” or using phrases like “unlimited links” should immediately raise a red flag. Working with Google and being able to rank at all times is very difficult, so if a company claims they’ll be able to do this – regardless of the competition – then it’s time to run a mile! A professional SEO agency will know howto beat the competition and work hard to increase exposure by building quality campaigns that result in a high-quality website.
Why should I hire an SEO agency?
You might be wondering why you’d want to spend money on hiring an SEO agency when there are so many “do it yourself” tactics available … Building a successful online presence isn’t easy! It requires the right tools, but also, knowledge. You’ll need to know how Google’ s search algorithms work. For instance, if you create content based around keywords without providing value, Google will penalize your site. But if you create quality content with these keywords naturally included, then your site will rank higher for them – resulting in more traffic! Unfortunately, you can’t learn this kind of stuff overnight. That’s why hiring an experienced SEO agency can be a wise decision!
